Gardens within gardens - take your time and be inspired
Wander through three acres of beautifully landscaped gardens situated in the picturesque Worcestershire countryside. The gardens surround a 17th century cottage which was once part of the Bishop of Worcester's estate.
If you would like advice on your "plot" or just need help and inspiration then come and walk through our "Gardens within Gardens" and enjoy the peace and quiet of our little bit of English Heaven.
The gardens are planted with over 800 varieties of mature trees, shrubs, perennials, alpines, heather's etc, chosen to give all year round colour and interest, with a large percentage being botanically labelled with Kew style professionally engraved labels.
Walk through the twisted pillar pergola, which is planted with fan trained apples and pears and is a picture all year round.
We have a large bog garden with the gigantic leaves of Gunnera (some six feet across) from mid summer through to Autumn.
The water features comprise 3 pools and a small stream, all built by our own students. There are also millstone, rock and cobble bubblers, and several wall and floor mounted water features plus many more inspiring ideas to fit gardens of all shape and sizes.
At the front of the house we have a scree garden that incorporates the cobble bubbler feature and also our Green man fountain, the inspiration for which is the English god of the wild wood, and was created by the artist Rodney Munday.
We also have a wrought iron gazebo, which is the perfect place to sit and take tea and cake in high summer.
The house and gardens have served many purposes over the last three centuries. In early years it was a coach house for the estate and later the home of the housekeeper and butler of Whitlenge House, which the cottage stood in the grounds of. It has also been the village dairy and in late Victorian years housed three separate families. The house also has a resident from centuries past who we call "Albert" although we now think it may be "Albertine", but that's a story you will have to ask us when you visit!.
After strolling our “inspirational” gardens, take time to relax and enjoy Tea & Cakes in our Tearoom.
We specialise in quality Teas and Coffees from around the world, and where possible we use Fairtrade and Organic produce.
To compliment your Tea & Coffee, try our homemade and speciality cakes.
